Breaking Ground on the Final Stretch
The finish line is in sight for the Eagle Valley Trail (EVT)! After decades of planning and progress, Eagle County is gearing up to complete the final 7.5 miles of this incredible 63-mile trail, which will soon span from the top of Vail Pass to the start of Glenwood Canyon, with a spur trail connecting Minturn to the EVT. Even more exciting, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts will be able to ride an uninterrupted 142-mile route from Breckenridge to Aspen—without ever having to get on a highway.
This last segment of the EVT is also the most challenging. The rugged terrain and necessary infrastructure make it the most complex and expensive section of the trail to build. But after years of planning, Eagle County is ready to take the next step.

Construction on the Final Sections Begins in 2025
In April 2025, the County will award a contract for Phase 1 of the final segment, which will span 1.7 miles from Horn Ranch Open Space to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Maintenance Yard. Construction is expected to begin in May or early June, with completion anticipated by December 2025.
To celebrate this major milestone, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held onsite in late spring, inviting community members, officials, and trail supporters to mark the beginning of construction. When the project is complete, a ribbon-cutting event in December will officially open this section of the trail.

Community Leaders Celebrate the Next Step
“This is a huge milestone,” said Kevin Sharkey, Eagle County’s Project Manager. “We’ve been working towards this for years, and now we’re finally breaking ground on the last stretch of the Eagle Valley Trail. When complete, this trail will connect communities, open up new opportunities for recreation, and provide a safe and scenic route for commuters, cyclists and pedestrians. It’s incredibly exciting to see it coming together.”

The Eagle Valley Trail has long been a priority for Eagle County, serving as both a world-class recreation asset and a key transportation corridor. The County remains committed to seeing the project through to completion.
“The Eagle Valley Trail is an investment in our community’s future,” said Eagle County Commissioner Tom Boyd. “This trail will enrich lives by improving access to the outdoors, supporting economic development, and providing a sustainable way to connect our communities. Completing this final section is a top priority, and we’re thrilled to see construction get underway.”
