Lose the Keys – Bicycles Are Shifting the Future

Swapping four tires for two can save more than just gas money – it can also save Eagle County from harmful CO2 emissions. Pedaling to work just one day a week can have a significant impact on the emissions produced by transportation, since cycling’s carbon footprint is 30 times less than that of driving, according to a University of Oxford study. By providing cyclists (and walkers!) with a safe path between home, work, school and businesses, the Eagle Valley Trail supports sustainable transportation for everyone in Eagle County. And with transportation emissions being the largest contributor to negative environmental impacts in the Eagle Valley, making the switch from a car to a bicycle can affect real change not just for our county but for all of Colorado.

How the Eagle Valley Trail Helps

In 2022, an estimated 20.5% of Eagle County residents used a form of sustainable travel – a percentage that will only increase once we finish the Eagle Valley Trail. With 63 miles of uninterrupted paved paths from the top of Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon, community members will be able to safely pedal their way to work, school, events or to run errands throughout our entire county – and even into surrounding counties! The trail is also e-bike friendly (excluding the top of Vail Pass), making it even more accessible to cyclists of all kinds.

Every decision makes a difference, from choosing to cycle to work to pedaling to the store to grab that forgotten grocery item. To make the biggest impact, help us finish the Eagle Valley Trail so we can create sustainable change together.
